Witches Rock surf break Santa Rosa National Park Costa Rica
Witches Rock & Ollie's Point

Legendary waves.
Boat access only.

Witches Rock and Ollie's Point are world-famous surfing spots inside Santa Rosa National Park — two of the best breaks in Costa Rica, and the only way to reach them is by boat from Playa del Coco.

Witches Rock (Roca Bruja) sits in front of Playa Naranjo, about 45 minutes from Coco. Ollie's Point is a bit further north in Potrero Grande. Both deliver world-class surf with completely undeveloped coastline all to yourself.

Prefer to drive? Tamarindo, Playa Negra, Avellanas, and Playa Grande are great surfing areas just 45–60 minutes south by car.

The Legend of Roca Bruja

How Witches Rock
got her name.

A long time ago in Playa del Coco — before all the cars and noise — all was quiet in the peaceful fishing village. When the waves, tides, and winds aligned just right, you could hear a howling sound drifting in from the ocean to the north. It came from a huge rock, like a witch crying out in the night… and so the locals named it Witches Rock. Roca Bruja.

Best Times to Surf

Two seasons,
waves year-round.

Dry Season Nov–Mar

The Costa Rican summer brings vibrant flowers on the mountains, epic sunsets, and fresh cool evenings great for stargazing. Water averages 74°F. Trade winds can create some chop, which actually produces excellent swell conditions along this coast.

Rainy Season Apr–Nov

Sunny mornings, afternoon showers, and stunning sunsets. The ocean calms right down with very little wind. Warmer water at 78–85°F and glassy conditions. Many surfers prefer the green season for consistency and total absence of crowds on those remote national park beaches.
